November 13-15, 2024, Warsaw, Poland. The Ontario government has successfully concluded a significant trade mission to Poland and Estonia, aiming to strengthen existing relationships and showcase how Ontario’s nuclear supply chain can help countries around the world meet increasing energy demands. Led by Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification, the mission secured new agreements between Laurentis Energy Partners—a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation—and Orlen Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) and Fermi Energia.
In Warsaw, Minister Lecce joined Michael Hare, Managing Director for Europe at Laurentis Energy Partners, and Rafal Kasprow, Chief Executive Officer of OSGE, for the signing of a pivotal agreement. Valued at up to $40 million, this agreement will see the Ontario company support the deployment of small modular reactors in Poland. Laurentis will assist in completing a Preliminary Safety Analysis Report, a comprehensive study required by Poland’s National Atomic Energy Agency.
Minister Lecce also attended the ReBuild Ukraine Conference while in Poland, where he met with Herman Galushchenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy. He announced that Ontario’s energy sector will provide nearly $5 million in energy equipment to Ukraine, including critical components for the electrical grid such as transformers and replacement materials.
At the conference, Minister Lecce was accompanied by members of the Canadian delegation, including Wojciech Śniegowski, Honorary Chairman of the Canada-Poland Chamber of Commerce (CPCC). The CPCC’s representation emphasized the organization’s active role in fostering trade relations between Canada and Poland. The delegation also attended a briefing at the Canadian Embassy hosted by Ambassador Catherine Godin, gaining further insights into the collaborative efforts in the energy sector between the two nations.
This mission not only strengthens the ties between Ontario and Poland but also positions Ontario as a key player in supporting global energy demands through innovative nuclear technology.
